The Bolesworth Castle March 2024 Classic & Performance Car Auction

Lot 106

1986 Porsche 911 (930) Turbo 3.3
The original ‘poster car’, offered from long term ownership with a comprehensive history file

Registration – C282 DWW

Chassis No. – WP0ZZZ93ZGS000799

M.O.T. – April 2024

Odometer – 71,405

If you could define a decade in one car, this Porsche 911 Turbo would be a perfect pick for the 1980s. Looking lithe and almost menacing in its gloss black bodywork, matching Fuchs alloys, and ‘whale-tail’ rear wing, the 930-series 911 Turbo features the famous 3.3 litre turbo-charged flat-six engine that helped make Porsche into the name it is today. First registered in 1986, ‘C282 DWW’ has a part-leather interior that is described by the vendor as pristine – as are the powertrain and electrics. The bodywork and paint are in good condition, and the current owner has a large file of historical work carried out, with the 911 Turbo well maintained by a Porsche specialist for a number of years. Offered for sale with 71,405 miles on the odometer, the Porsche is a wonderful example of its type, perfect for either investor or enthusiast.

In the early ‘70s, Porsche had designs on racing a turbocharged version of the 911, in support of which they planned a homologation special along the lines of the Carrera 2.7 RS. A subsequent change in the rules negated the need for a precise number of street legal vehicles, but the company continued with the project anyway – the Porsche 911 Turbo was born. The 930 was based around the Carrera 3.0 RS, the engine from which was modified courtesy of turbo technology developed for the 917/30 CAN-AM cars. Initially power output was 260bhp, but from 1978 it was increased to 300bhp by raising the engine capacity to 3.3-litres. To accommodate the extra performance over the 3.0 RS, the 930 sported revised suspension, larger brakes and a robust four-speed gearbox. In order to help deliver the power to the road, a ‘whale tail’ rear spoiler was fitted and a wider rear wheel/tyre package was squeezed under specially flared arches.

In summary:

  • Comes complete with comprehensive Porsche specialist history file
  • Currently displaying a modest 71,405 miles
  • Beautifully maintained inside and out
