This fabulous 1972 Ford Escort, offered at No Reserve, presents a rare and very exciting opportunity for collectors to acquire a highly original example. Manufactured in 1972, this Mk1 Ford Escort has been in its current ownership for 30 years – since 21 November 1992, to be exact. Remarkably, it has had only four previous keepers, well below the 20-plus average for other cars more than 52 years old. Finished in green with a black vinyl roof, ‘HDM942K’ is a two-door model with a black vinyl interior that the vendor describes as being in ‘good’ condition. They add that this “totally original” vehicle would benefit from a respray, but its current condition allows enthusiasts to appreciate its pure originality.
‘HDM942K’ comes complete with the V5, plus a spare wheel and jack – and a spare exhaust. It has recently benefitted from four new tyres, plus new brakes and brake pipes. The vendor says the 1,098cc engine and four-speed transmission are in ‘good’ condition, while the five-digit odometer reads just over 12,000 miles. Classic Mk1 Ford Escorts are ever-collectible, and ‘HDM942K’ presents a rare and exciting opportunity to acquire a very original car from reassuringly long-term ownership for No Reserve.
The Mk1 Ford Escort was introduced in 1968 as a replacement for the Ford Anglia. While its predecessor was an iconic best-seller in its own right, the Escort would go on to even greater heights. Built at Ford’s Halewood plant in Liverpool. It was originally offered in two-door guise, with an estate following soon after, and a four-door arriving in 1969. A range of petrol engines was available, with 1.1 and 1.3 crossflow versions proving most popular. The iconic high-performance Mk1 Ford Escorts have been collectable cars for years, but there’s always been a market for mainstream versions too – and with fewer surviving today, it makes examples such as this are exciting opportunities for enthusiasts.
