When new in 2008, this CL500 cost around £90,000 - about half the price of an average house in England at the time! The investment reflected the build quality, desirability, styling, power and loaded specification of Mercedes’ sleek, four-seater coupe. Those qualities remain in ‘YD57 EUO’ today, and certainly represent a lot of car for the money in the current market. The black paintwork is matched to a sumptuous, predominantly cream leather interior. Further adding to the big Benz’s appeal are its 20” five-spoke AMG alloy wheels, shod with Pirelli P Zero tyres. Its 5.5-litre V8 engine has been serviced within the last month and the ABC suspension hydraulics replaced within the last year. The car’s very generous specification includes Mercedes’ Night View Assist programme, Distronic Plus cruise control, Harman/Kardon speakers, electric sunroof, trip computer, dual zone climate control sat-nav and electric and heated memory front seats. The vendor presently considers the V8 engine, automatic transmission, two-door coupe bodywork, paintwork and upholstery to all be in ‘excellent’ condition. He is now selling the car complete with full service history (12 stamps since 2008), a selection of invoices and old MOTs, plus a current one valid into October next year. The MOT and service records support the currently indicated mileage of 85,694.
The CL-Class coupe derivative of Mercedes’ S-Class luxury saloon was produced from 1992 to 2014. It shared some of the same engines and echoed the development cycle of the S-Class upon whose platform it was based, albeit on a shorter wheelbase. The third and final generation C-Class (C216) ran from 2006 to 2014. Four models were available: the 5.5-litre V8 CL500, 6.2-litre V8 CL63 AMG, twin-turbo 5.5-liltre V12 CL600 and the twin-turbo 6-litre V12 CL65 AMG. The output of the CL500 was 382bhp – sufficient to power the big coupe to 60mph in little more than 5.0 seconds.
