If you like your Fords original and unmolested, then ‘BMA 450W’ could be the Capri for you. One of the last of the 3.0-litre Essex V6 MKIIIs to be built, it was first registered by Quick’s of Chester in June 1981 and served as a company car for the dealership’s sales manager. The vendor purchased it in February 1985 and has retained it to this day, so it is a genuine one private owner example. He informs us that ‘it starts and drives superbly, with rare power steering and silky smooth automatic gearbox’. He adds that the bodywork ‘is solid everywhere and the Dark Gold Metallic paintwork totally original, though notes it has suffered a slight degree of micro-blistering’. On the subject of the engine he says ‘it pulls cleanly and ticks over silently’. Overall he currently classes the engine, and transmission as ‘excellent’, the beige upholstery as ‘good’, and the bodywork and paintwork as ‘average’. With just 48,000 miles to its name, this remarkably original Capri is now offered complete with every scrap of paperwork from new, including the original dealer pack and windscreen sticker, plus every old MOT and a current one valid to March 17 next year. Arguably a unique opportunity for the many Capri fans everywhere.

Ford’s Capri was launched at the 1969 Brussels Salon. The fastback coupe was intended to do for Europe what the Mustang had done for the USA. The newcomer was initially offered with a generous choice of four-cylinder engines, but by September they’d been joined by the 136bhp, 3-litre V6 Essex unit. Worthwhile improvements to the model came with the MKII versions of 1974 and the quadruple headlamp MKIII cars introduced in 1978.

In summary:

  • A one private owner example
  • Just 48,000 miles from new
  • Comes complete with 40 years’ worth of paperwork
