The Bolesworth Castle March 2025 Classic, Performance & Supercar Auction

Lot 12

1982 BMW 323i
***NO RESERVE*** Genuine barn find for full restoration with an interesting registration

Registration – YKK 5X

Chassis No. – WBAAH3205C7277926

M.O.T. – Exempt

Odometer – 117,959

Displayed with all the patina one would expect of a genuine barn find, this example of BMW’s 323i is offered at no reserve. Presented in classic white over a grey interior, ‘YKK 5X’ is fitted with a host of period correct features, including multi-spoke alloys and black chin spoiler. This version of BMW’s E21 is a late example of BMW’s first-generation 3 Series, and as such comes in two-door saloon guise. Powered by the largest capacity engine offered in the E21-era 3 Series, it comes with a 2,315cc straight six under the bonnet, and a five-speed manual transmission. The grey cloth interior is largely in situ, despite the barn find nature of its sale, and surrounded by black vinyl on the door cards, and black plastic dashboard.

Offered with a desirable numberplate, ‘YKK 5X’ has been in long term storage, and in the same ownership for more than 10 years. A highly original example of BMW’s first-generation 3 Series, it comes with an indicated 117,959 miles on the clock, though this is not a guaranteed figure. Offered at no reserve, this right-hand drive classic 3 Series is tailor-made for a restoration project.

· Offered at no reserve

· High performance E21 BMW 3 Series

· Ideal model for restoration project

BMW’s compact executive 3 Series line of cars launched in 1975, replacing the 02 Series with the E21 model. Designed by Paul Bracq, it was offered in two-door saloon form only, other than a partial works-effort convertible, manufactured by Baur. Offered with straight four and straight six engines, and either manual or automatic transmission, the E21 has become one of the most important cars in BMW’s history. The 323i was the flagship model, pre-dating M-Division tuned cars but essentially the performance 3 Series. Production ran until 1983, when it was replaced by the E30-generation 3 Series.
