Japanese car enthusiasts will love this rare 1997 Mitsubishi Legnum ST-R, which is being offered for auction at No Reserve. The Japanese-only estate version of the Mitsubishi Galant, this Galaxy White car was imported into the UK in early 2023 after being in storage for several years. The vendor describes the naturally-aspirated 2.5-litre V6 engine and four-speed automatic (a “state-of-the-art self-learning transmission”) as being in ‘excellent’ condition, as are the electrics and the paintwork. Notably, this car has had just one previous owner, with an odometer reading 105,000 kilometres, or around 65,000 miles. Distinctive features on the outside include 10-spoke alloy wheels and a dramatic horseshoe-shape wraparound tailgate spoiler.
‘R312KDS’ has had a new exhaust system installed, along with new dampers and an updated infotainment system. Other than this, says the vendor, it is completely standard. They say it is undersealed and has been well-maintained with a full service history. It’s currently been off the road for four months, but has an MOT valid until January 2025. Inside, the black leather interior is complemented by a walnut dashboard, which the vendor says was part of Mitsubishi’s desire for it to complete with premium rivals.
The Mitsubishi Legnum was an estate version of the upscale eight-generation Mitsubishi Galant saloon. The ST-R was a non-turbo version of the range-topping VR-4, making it a more manageable and less extreme vehicle that still delivered plenty of performance thrills. Exclusive to the Japanese market, the Legnum has since found fans in other countries including the UK, and is now a desirable choice among enthusiasts.
