Here we have one very purposeful-looking 996 Porsche, the factory-fitted aero kit of which adds to the already muscular looks of the standard Turbo version. It is a matching-numbers UK-specification example that was first registered in May 2002, the silver paintwork of which is paired with black leather interior trim. The car boasts a full service history (part Porsche, part specialist) and the paperwork confirms that the last bout of maintenance was carried out as recently as October 14. A fresh set of tyres (Michelin rear, Bridgestone, front) have also been installed during the vendor’s three-year ownership, while at some stage the original exhaust system has been replaced by a stainless steel one. The vendor presently classes all major aspects of the Porsche as ‘excellent’, and it is now being sold complete with factory-fitted sunroof and Bose sound system, in-car telephone, over-mats, owner’s book pack, a large selection of invoices and other paperwork, plus a current MOT certificate valid into October 2024. The currently indicated mileage of 67,000 is supported by the service and MOT histories.
Designed by Pinky Lai, the 996 generation of Porsche’s ubiquitous 911 was manufactured between 1997 and 2004 and was notable for featuring the first all-new chassis platform since the model’s introduction in 1963, and being the first variant to be powered by a water- rather than air-cooled engine. The newcomer replaced the popular 993 series from which only the suspension and manual gearbox were retained, be it in revised form. The all-wheel drive Turbo version of the 996 debuted at the 1999 Frankfurt Salon and was powered by a twin-turbo, flat-six engine of 3.6-litres, that was a direct development of the Le Mans-winning Porsche GT1 of the previous year. The unit’s output was a suitably substantial 414bhp and 415lb ft of torque – sufficient to endow the Porsche with a 0-60mph acceleration time of 4.2 seconds and 190mph top speed. There was the choice of six-speed manual or five-speed Tiptronic transmission.
