The Gold Cup Classic & Performance Car & Motorcycle Auction

Lot 130

2003 Robin Hood 2B

Registration - E35 DNA

Chassis No. - SABTVR03293240033

M.O.T. - August 2024

Odometer TBC

Here we have an exceedingly neat-looking Robin Hood that was apparently purchased direct from the factory in 2000 by an aviation engineer, who then set about assembling the kit to a very high standard before finally registering it for the road in September 2003. The body is a pleasing mix of Radiant Red paint and polished aluminium. Power comes from a 2-litre Ford Sierra Pinto engine that was completely refurbished and uprated with: a ported and gas flowed cylinder head, Piper fast road camshaft, vernier pulley, twin-choke Weber carburettors with adjustable fuel regulator, separate oil cooler, and wrapped side-exit stainless steel exhaust. The powerplant drives through a Ford Type 9 gearbox with quick shift change. The suspension features adjustable coil-over units all-round, and the little two-seater rides on a set of damage-free 15inch Team Dynamics alloy wheels, finished in gloss black and wrapped in Yokohama tyres. The cockpit features bucket seats with Cobra harnesses, a full set of instruments and a Momo leather-rimmed steering wheel. The vendor informs us that the 2B has covered just 6,600 miles from new, and currently classes its engine, five-speed manual gearbox, bodywork, paintwork and upholstery as all being in ‘excellent’ order. ‘E35 DNA’ comes complete with 12 months’ MOT.

Colin Chapman’s ubiquitous Lotus Seven was launched as long ago as 1957 yet the concept is, if anything, more popular today than it was then. When Lotus ceased Seven production in 1972/1973, Caterham acquired the manufacturing rights and have built cars to the original design ever since. However, such has always been the demand for affordable wind-in-the-hair machines that a number of other companies have successfully marketed look-alike models, among which was Robin Hood Engineering of Sherwood, Nottingham, who manufactured such two-seaters from 1980 to 2006, when its assets were purchased by Great British Sports Cars.

In summary:

  • A very smartly-presented 6,600-mile example
  • Powered by an uprated 2.0-litre Ford Pinto engine
  • Equipped with adjustable suspension, rollover bar and harnesses
