This honest example of the ever popular Jaguar XK8 (X100) presents in a popular and desirable livery of Carnival Red over Ivory leather. Sitting purposefully on a set of split-rim style Team Dynamics alloy wheels the XK8’s odometer currently records 117,864 miles. In the current ownership since February 2023 this XK8 is offered without reserve. The next owner will need to MOT the Jaguar before use as its last recorded MOT expired in January 2017. DVLA records suggest very light recent use with around 6,000 miles covered in the last 10 years. The XK8 holds a Category C insurance marker dating from December 2006. The current, and eighth recorded keeper reports that the Jaguar starts, runs and drives well. The current dateless registration number is included in the sale.

With big E-Type and XJ-S shaped shoes to fill the new X100 sports car was much anticipated. Developed remarkably quickly under Ford ownership the XK8 took a bow for the first time in 1996. This example exhibits all the cues that so impressed at the XK8’s launch. Chief amongst these was the all new AJ-V8 4-litre engine. The quad-cam, 32 valve unit is a gem delivering a healthy 290 bhp in a linear and refined way. Variable cam phasing enables 80% peak torque to be delivered from just 1,400 rpm. The lightest engine in the class, at just 200 kg, the AJ-V8 has proved to be a durable and characterful unit. The XK8 features Jaguar’s first five speed automatic and this combination delivers a 150 mph plus top speed and a sub seven second 0-60 mph time.

Purposely designed to evoke memories of classic Jaguars of yore, such as the XK120, C, D and E types, this XK8 presents well with the owner describing the exterior condition as “good.” Our photographic package reveals a few minor blemishes, inevitable at this age and mileage, but it appears impressive for a shade prone to fade and lacquer deterioration. The XK8 is retrofitted with a set of 19-inch, ten spoke Team Dynamics split rim style alloy wheels. These appear ripe for refurbishment and the centre caps are present but currently not fitted. A mixed set of economy tyres are fitted and appear to date from 2020. A full sized spare wheel is reported as present.

This XK8 features what Jaguar called the “Classic” interior, by which they meant more evocative of Jaguars past and featuring plenty of light hued leather and accompanying varnished wooden veneers. The cabin is not just bigger than that of the XJS but significantly plusher, too. The Ivory hued leather is counterpointed with accents of Mushroom hued accents to help emphasise the luxurious nature of the cabin. Some wear and tear is noted, especially to the leather and veneer steering wheel and other touch points. The XK8 is a well appointed car with automatic climate control from the XJ series, electrically adjustable seats and, in this instance, the optional premium Harmon Kardon 240 watt audio system. Cruise control, “tilt-away” and multi-function steering wheel and a golf bag swallowing 327 litre boot also feature.

Whilst Ford granted the long serving XJS a stay of execution on their arrival in 1986, it was starting to show its considerable age towards the end of its production cycle. As such, its long awaited replacement was eagerly anticipated. It is fair to say that the XK8 was very warmly received, especially for its feline styling which featured recognisable DNA of iconic Jaguars of the past. The AJ-V8, 4-litre engine was particularly praised for its combination of power, refinement and relative economy. Over 90,000 XK8s were ultimately built with just 19,748 of these being in this desirable hard top coupe configuration.

In summary:

  • Vibrant looking livery which presents well
  • Individual and sporty looking Team Dynamics, 19-inch alloy wheels
  • Complete with a personalised, dateless registration number
