‘EVP 281L’ offers originality and charm by the bucket load. ‘EVP 281L’ is an example of the 1972 Austin Mini Clubman in popular but rare estate configuration. Whilst clearly not a concours ready example, ‘EVP 281L’ offers a careworn, but entirely useable, condition which has become so popular in recent years. ‘EVP 281L’ has been through the hands of just six keepers and records a mileage of 85,782 miles covered to date. Both of these are well below average for a 52 year old car. The current owner has had ‘EVP 281L’ for over six years and recently attended a number of Mini shows including those at Bingley Hall and the British Motor Museum at Gaydon. ‘EVP 281L’ is classified as an Historic Vehicle based on age and so is MOT exempt and zero rated for road tax and, so, ready to use immediately.
‘EVP 281L’ still wears its original 1972 white livery complete with wood effect painted waist panels and roof. The car also features the signature Clubman chromed nose treatment with full width grill and integrated headlamps. This Clubman has purposely been left to reflect its long life and personality in full. As such there is plenty of surface corrosion, rust stained areas and even some thick blue paint on the bonnet as a reminder of some earlier vandalism. ‘EVP 281L’ is fitted with a set of silver painted Cooper reverse steel wheels and original chromed Clubman caps. The interior is finished in blue vinyl and is an architype of the Clubman cabin. The extra utility added by ‘EVP 281L’s’ estate configuration enhances this car’s rarity and popularity. The vendor confirms that ‘EVP 281L’ seems to draw far more attention at shows than more shiny, fully restored examples. Paintwork, bodywork and interior are all rated as “average.”
The Clubman model was introduced in 1969 as a replacement for the badge engineered Wolseley Hornet and Riley Elf which were both mildly reworked Minis. Despite the exterior redesign of the nose, the mechanicals were standard Mini through and through. This means ‘EVP 281L’ is fitted with the 998cc transversely mounted, A-series engine and four speed manual transmission. The engine, transmission and electrics are all rated as average.
In summary:
· A highly original and characterful example of the rarely seen Mini Clubman estate
· Complete with an appealing and popular, semi rat-look persona
· Now MOT exempt and zero rated for road tax
