Registration - L958 VEG
Chassis No. - WVWZZZ1HZRW584120
M.O.T. - July 2022
Odometer - 86,388
With its road-hugging stance, 16-inch BBS-style alloy wheels shod with ‘stretched’ tyres and Euro front bumper, not to mention appealing Indigo Blue paintwork, L958 VEG’ is quite a head turner. Hidden below are coilover suspension and a stainless steel exhaust system, while the inside boasts black leather upholstery and upgraded sound system, so there’s much to like about this once staid family saloon. According to Experian Autocheck it’s had just five keepers to date and the odometer presently displays an unwarranted but perfectly credible total mileage of 86,388. The vendor says the Veedub ‘drives well’ and grades the engine as ‘excellent’, the transmission, bodywork and paintwork as ‘good’ and the interior trim as ‘average’. He is now selling the recently-serviced car complete with sunroof, a range of spares and an MOT valid into July.
Volkswagen’s Jetta made its debut at the Frankfurt Salon of 1979. It was conceived to meet the demand (especially in the American market) for a Golf-sized passenger car of traditional three-box as opposed to hatchback design. Now in its seventh generation it has been a notable success for its makers. The third generation, as per the sale car, reigned from 1992 to 1999. The two-door version was discontinued and the aerodynamics took a turn for the better – the car now had a drag coefficient of 0.32 – while the suspension was refined and the track widened. No less than eight different specifications of engine were employed over the period, all of which drove through either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission. The output of the 1.9-litre TDI engine powering the sale car was rated at 89bhp and 155 ft lb of torque.
