Lot 23

1936 Austin Seven Ruby

Registration - AWV 519

Chassis No. - ARR273470

M.O.T. - Exempt

Odometer - 88,036

This very original-looking Ruby is a 1936 example that’s finished in the stately combination of dark blue over black and trimmed in a suitably matching shade of blue. The exterior appears to be in very tidy order and the equally shipshape interior has the patina of a car that’s been enjoyed but well cared for. The vendor informs us that the little Austin ‘starts on the button and runs smoothly when warmed up’, and he currently grades the bodywork, paintwork, upholstery, engine and transmission as all being in ‘good’ order. Apparently the car was treated to a new radiator core in in 2005, a new battery (‘that’s still going strong’) in 2014, and a £1,078 general overhaul in 2014. In summary, the vendor describes ‘AWW 519’ as ‘a nice little car in very usable condition’ and confirms it has participated in many Austin 7 club rallies. With the odometer currently registering a very credible, though unwarranted, total mileage of 88,036, the Ruby is now in search of a new home, and is being offered complete with a large history folder containing receipts for the many minor parts purchased for it over the years, plus a collection of old MOTs dating back as far as 1983. Due to recent lack of use, it is recommended that a service is carried out before the venerable Austin is returned to the road once again.

Adored by the British public, the Seven was in production from 1922 until 1939, during which time some 290,000 were produced and the remaining cars are an increasingly vital element of the vintage movement. Introduced in 1934, the Ruby variant was an addition to the existing saloon line-up, whose distinguishing features were a longer bonnet, cowled radiator and downswept tail incorporating an enclosed spare wheel.

  • A very original example
  • Comes with large history folder
  • A regular participant in marque club rallies
