1968 Land Rover Series IIa

Registration - PGV 55E

Chassis No. - 27109020D

M.O.T. - Exempt

Series Land Rovers have enjoyed an ardent following since the model’s launch in 1948 – one which shows no signs of abating. The short wheelbase example offered here would appear to be remarkably original apart from an older repaint, with no visible repairs and a splendid overall patina. Equally unusual is it having remained within the same family from new, with only two former keepers all told - father and son farmers. The vendor informs us that 2.25-litre diesel engine ‘starts well and pulls through all the gears’ and that ‘the chassis is very good, though could arguably now do with a small patch on the rear cross-member’. He also says ‘the bulkhead and footwells etc are very good’, but notes that ‘the passenger doorpost would now benefit from some minor attention’. In summary, he currently regards the four-cylinder engine as being in ‘excellent’ condition, the four-wheel drive transmission as ‘good’, the bodywork as ‘average’ and the blue paintwork and black interior as ‘below average’. The sale of ‘PGV 55E’ would therefore seem to represent a notably rare opportunity to purchase a remarkably unmolested Land Rover to either use in its current charmingly patinated state or restore as desired.

By the time of the Series IIA of 1961-1971, Land Rover production was at its all-time peak of over 60,000 vehicles per annum. The model is considered by many to be the most durable of all Series variants.

In summary:

  • Has remained within the same family from new, with only three keepers all told
  • A remarkably unmolested, original example
  • Apparently very solid underneath
