1971 Mini Clubman

Registration - CTF 388J

Chassis No. - XA2S2271343A

M.O.T. - September 2021

Odometer - 26,800

All variants of the classic Mini have shown a marked uplift in interest in recent years, and figures from British Motor Heritage confirm they are being refurbished and restored at an ever increasing rate. This very pretty 1000cc Clubman is clearly a case in point. Having been stripped to bare metal, it was resprayed in the current livery of Glacier White over black, the overall effect of which is complemented by a set of 10” GB Minilite alloy wheels. Evidently just about every mechanical part has been rebuilt or renewed. The engine has been treated to a pair of ¼-inch SU carburettors, Cooper S air filters, and three branch exhaust manifold and stainless steel system courtesy of Minisport. The front and rear subframes have been refurbished and equipped with new parts including Hi-Lo adjustable trumpets and dampers, while the braking system has been treated to copper piping throughout, and a 7.5in disc and caliper upgrade at the front.

Much of the brightwork has also been renewed. In a departure from standard specification, the Clubman has been fitted with a 1275 GT radiator grille, rear badge and side-stipes. The vendor currently considers the bodywork, paintwork black interior trim, A Series engine and four-speed manual gearbox to all be in ‘excellent’ condition, and confirms that this unique Mini is ‘fun and exciting to drive’. He is now offering it complete with two large files of receipts, handbook and spare keys. And, while an MOT is not legally required, ‘CTF 388J’ nevertheless has a current one that valid until September 21 this year. A smart, fun affordable classic that’s currently displays a credible but unwarranted 26,800 total miles

In summary:

  • Comprehensively restored with lots of new parts
  • Customised with GM Minilite wheels and some 1275 GT items
  • A very eye-catching example
