Lot 41

1979 Jeep CJ7 Renegade

Registration - GPW 838T

Chassis No. - J8B93EA136060

M.O.T. - March 2022

Odometer - 62,899

This ultra-smart Renegade should be good for many years of trouble free fun, as its 4.2-litre straight-six engine and three-speed automatic transmission were both reconditioned five years ago, while the rest of the Jeep was treated to a major restoration as recently as 2018. Since then, the eye-catching 4x4 has been dry stored and only brought out on sunny days. A real head turner, it is finished in a very attractive shade of metallic red that’s suitably complemented by an all-black interior and black five-spoke alloy wheels that are shod in chunky BFGoodrich off-road tyres. The interior is notable for its high-back bucket seats and substantial rear roll-over frame. The vendor unsurprisingly currently considers the bodywork, paintwork, interior trim, engine and Quadra-Trac 4x4 transmission to all be in ‘excellent’ order, and is now offering the go-anywhere vehicle complete with: two sets of doors; bikini, hard and soft tops and a current MOT valid until March 30 next year, plus even a ‘GPW’ registration plate (GPW was the name of the Ford version of the WWII Jeep). What’s not to like?

Developed from the Willys WWII Jeep, the CJ (Civilian Jeep) series of recreational 4x4s were manufactured from 1945 to 1986. The CJ7 variant, as per the sale car, was produced from 1976 to 1987, during which time no less than 379,299 examples were built. It was offered with a variety of engines from 2.4 to 5.0 litres and with a range of trim packages – eg Renegade, Golden Eagle, Golden Hawk and Laredo.

In summary:

  • Reconditioned throughout in the last 5 years
  • Very smartly presented
  • Equipped with no less than three types of top
