Lot 34

1985 BMW 316

Registration - C111 XJA

Chassis No. - WBAAK520709517538

M.O.T. - March 2022

Odometer - 124,000

So, when did you last see a BMW E30 in this condition – probably not for a very long time? That’s because it’s recently been the subject of a nut and bolt rotisserie restoration. The entire body was cleaned, degreased and de-rusted where necessary. The whole chassis and cavities were washed, blown dry and waxed, and new rubberised underbody paint and epoxy primers applied where appropriate before the entire car, including its original PFEBA bodykit, was resprayed in black. The half-leather interior was also refurbished, which included the installation of a new headlining, while the original 15 inch BBS alloy wheels and centre caps were refurbished and shod with new tyres. Attention was also paid to the mechanicals, during which: a new clutch was fitted; the front and rear brakes rebuilt; the suspension treated to new anti-roll bars and links all round, new trailing arms and bushes, and new dampers; plus fresh seals and rubbers. This extraordinary-looking car certainly belies its age not to mention its mileage to date of 124,000. It is now being offered complete with a selection photographs of it during and after the restoration and a current MOT valid into March of next year. A one-off opportunity for E30 fans everywhere.

The 3 Series BMW is an automotive phenomenon, which began in 1975, with the E21 model. All things to all men, it has transported millions of businessmen during the week, won countless touring car championships at the weekend and continuously outsold such cheaper, common or garden offerings as Ford’s excellent Mondeo and Vauxhall’s Insignia. Moreover, the honeymoon shows no sign of ending, with the car now in its seventh (G20) generation and still the class leader by which all rivals are judged. BMW’s best-selling model, it alone accounts for some 30 percent of the company’s annual sales.

  • The subject of a recent nut and bolt restoration
  • Features a PFEBA bodykit
  • Contains numerous replacement mechanical parts
