Lot 21

1990 Jaguar XJ-S

Registration - H62 MPD

Chassis No. - SAJJNAEW3BB169995

M.O.T. - December 2021

Odometer - 85,830

This very attractively-liveried XJ-S coupe is finished in Jade Green that’s complemented by Parchment hide. A matching numbers righthand drive example, it was dispatched new to a Mr R Jones of Guernsey on January 26, 1990 by Guy Salmon Jaguar Thames Ditton, and is understood to be No.46 of the 50-strong batch of limited edition XJ-Ss created by the company in celebration of its 25th anniversary. Some featured non-standard headlights and radiator grille which ‘H62 MPD’ is not equipped with, but it does sport the distinctive roof and tail spoilers that were also included in the unique specification. The Jaguar has remained within its current ownership for the last five years, during which it has been used sparingly and only in good weather. Aside of a small repair near the spoiler and slight dent in the rear bumper the vendor regards the ‘very straight bodywork’ as ‘beautiful with perfect panel gaps all round’, the ‘rip-free interior as good with just general wear’, and the V12 engine and automatic engine as ‘excellent’. This handsome specimen rides on apparently unmarked alloy wheels and currently registers a total mileage of 85,830. It is now offered complete with a comprehensive history file that includes its original bill of sale, a Heritage Certificate and current MOT valid until December 5.

That Jaguar's XJ-S (later the XJS) is becoming an increasingly sought after classic is beyond doubt. Based on the XJ saloon, it was launched in September 1975 as a replacement for the legendary E-Type, though it was of a very different character – the E-type being a race-bred sports car while the XJS was more of a high speed GT machine. The excellence of its basic design was ably demonstrated by its 21-year production life, while some of its underpinnings later found their way into the Aston Martin DB7 and Jaguar XK8.

  • An interesting limited edition example
  • Features distinctive roof and tail spoilers
  • A handsome well cared-for specimen
