This 1948 Ford V8 Pilot is a fine example of Ford’s first post-war British-built V8 saloon. Finished in black with a period brown interior, it retains all the hallmarks of late-1940s motoring charm, including trafficator indicators, a column gearshift, and understated chrome detailing.
Remarkably, the accompanying V5 shows that the car has had only three owners from new – a rare level of continuity for a car of this age. The vendor informs us it has recently benefitted from the installation of a new ex-MOD crate engine, ensuring strong mechanical reliability alongside its originality. A history file of photographs and documents supports its past restoration and ongoing maintenance.
Launched in 1947, the Ford Pilot was powered by a 3.6-litre side-valve V8, offering British buyers American-inspired performance in a practical four-door body. Known for its smooth torque delivery, robust engineering, and distinctive styling, the Pilot quickly found favour as both a family saloon and as a police car across the UK. Today, survivors are cherished for their period character and rarity on modern roads.
