The Gold Cup Classic & Performance Car Auction

Lot 62

1987 Porsche 911 Turbo
The original "poster car," finished in sought-after Guards Red, comes with a comprehensive history file

Registration - D455 FYJ

Chassis No. - WP0ZZZ93ZHS000517

M.O.T. - TBC

Odometer - 59,000

This striking 1987 Porsche 911 ‘930’ Turbo coupe is a wonderful throwback to the 1980s. It is finished in classic Guards Red, which perfectly sets off the wide-body stance and ‘whale tail’ rear spoiler. A black leather interior is the best combination and helps add to the desirability of this classic Porsche. The vendor says it comes with some desirable factory-fit optional extras too, including heated sports seats with electric adjustment, and rear seatbelts. Being a 1987 car, this 930 Turbo has the 330bhp 3.3-litre flat-six engine.

‘D445FYJ’ has an odometer that reads just 59,000 miles, and it will come with a full 12-month MOT. The vendor says that it also has a full service history, apart from the 15-year period when it was dry stored by the previous owner. “This ties in with the MOTs.” The engine is described as ‘excellent’ and, just before they bought it in 2020, the car had a partial engine rebuild including reconditioned cylinder heads and a new clutch. The vendor has replaced most of the fuel system, including the fuel lines, tank, pump, filter and injectors. It also has a reconditioned Bosch K-Jetronic auxiliary air valve and warm-up regulator. The bodywork, paintwork and interior are all described as being in ‘good’ condition.

The Porsche 911 needs no introduction; it is the most famous sports car in the world. The original 911 Turbo, codenamed 930, saw the Stuttgart firm turn the dial up to 11. Originally a homologation special, it was launched in late 1975 and soon became a favourite among enthusiasts. The first cars produced 260bhp, which increased to 300bhp in 1978 and, by 1983, a tantalising 330bhp. The 0-60mph time was a scintillating 4.7 seconds – yet the car still used a four-speed manual gearbox, the only unit in Porsche’s line-up capable of handling the engine’s monstrous output. Only in 1989 did it gain a five-speed gearbox, shortly before the 930 Turbo was discontinued, before being revived in 964 guise in 1991.

In summary:

· Superb 930 Turbo in classic red with black leather

· Odometer reads just 59,000 miles

· Engine and fuel system benefit from recent reconditioning
