Lot 20

1997 Rover 820 Vitesse Turbo Fastback

Registration – R532 EAH

Chassis No. – SARRSWWVGWM248482

M.O.T. – 12/24

Odometer – 110,979

This handsome example of Rover’s sporting flagship model was registered on 4 October 1997. Smartly-presented in Nightfire Red metallic paintwork, it sits on six-spoke alloy wheels. The standard specification for this model was generous, so this five-door hatchback boasts half-leather Recaro front seats, electric windows and mirrors, tinted glass sunroof, and burr walnut trim touches in the black and grey half-leather interior. The 820 Vitesse was all about sporting executive luxury and R532 EAH’ is powered by Rover’s ‘T16’ 2-litre, 16-valve fuel-injected DOHC petrol engine which produces 197bhp. The car features the original Rover radio cassette player with RDS, has had just four previous keepers, has been in its present ownership for four years and comes with a current MOT with no advisories to 21December 2024. MOT records appear to support the declared sub-111,000 mileage.

Developed in conjunction with Honda, the Rover 800 series of executive cars succeeded the Rover SD1 was produced by British Leyland subsidiary the Austin Rover Group and its successor the Rover Group between 1986 and 1999. The 800 series was closely allied to the Honda Legend. In the United States the 800 series was designated the Sterling but in Europe and many other international markets the Sterling name was given to the top of the range saloon version, with the Vitesse name applying to the top of the range fastback model – the sporting flagship. In 1991 the series was re-engineered and reskinned (codename R17), which saw the return of Rover’s traditional grille and a curvier body design. The revised model was a hit – with the 800 series overtaking Ford’s Granada to become the best-selling executive car in the UK for the first few years of the 1990s.

In summary:

· A low-owner example of Rover’s sporting executive flagship model

· MOT records support the sub-111,000 mileage

· A comfortable and luxurious motor car – ideal for grand tours
