Lot 24

1974 Triumph TR6

Registration - HRY 707N

Chassis No. - CR6466O

M.O.T. - June 2021

Odometer - 45,830

This eye-catching Mimosa-coloured TR6 was built on August 30, 1974 though, interestingly, was not registered until March 7 the following year. The most recent of its 14 keepers has retained the Triumph since early 2005, during which time it has apparently always been garaged and well maintained. The engine was rebuilt approximately 300 miles ago, while various replacement or uprated items have been recently installed – eg a heavy duty battery, fuel tank, stainless steel exhaust system, Lumenition electronic ignition, spin-on oil filter, Koni front dampers, inertia-reel seat belts and a Moto–Lita leather-rimmed steering wheel. The vendor informs us that ‘HRY 707N’ is: ‘very sound underneath; has an excellent, rust-free body; equally good brightwork; and drives beautifully’. Its distinctive yellow bodywork is complemented by black vinyl interior trim that’s classed as ‘good’ by the vendor. The indicated mileage is currently a modest 45,830 miles and this handsome two-seater Triumph comes complete with a current MOT that’s valid until June 28, though of course the car is no longer legally required to have one.

Triumph’s TR Series began with the unveiling of a prototype (the TR1) at the 1952 London Motor Show. The TR2 was launched the following year, and so began a series of two-seater sports cars that ended in 1981 with the last of the TR8s. The evolution was steady but continuous and the TR6 unveiled in 1968 was effectively a cleverly updated TR5. For the body revisions Triumph naturally turned to the Italian who had styled the TR4/TR5 – Michelotti. However, he could not meet their schedule and the squaring off of the nose and tail were eventually achieved by the German designers at Karmann. The car’s underpinnings were broadly as per the TR5. A total of 94,619 examples were produced, a mere 8,370 of which were sold on the home market.

  • Engine rebuilt just 300 miles ago
  • Equipped with many uprated items
  • Apparent low mileage of just 45,830
