Mercedes-Benz 190E are becoming ever-more collectable and this late-model example is described as a “lovely car” that’s offered at No Reserve. Complete with desirable lower body ‘Sacco panels’, it is finished in classic two-tone metallic green with a grey cloth interior. It has had just five owners in the last 33 years, with only three keepers between its 19 May 1992 registration and 2018. The vendor says the car comes with service data stretching right back to 1992 – with an incredible 31 stamps in the service book. It was originally supplied by Hill’s of Shrewsbury, and still carries ‘Mercedes-Benz of Shrewsbury’ on its registration plates. The period 15-inch wheels have original-spec trims, too.
‘J18 TWL’ is a 1.8-litre 190E with a manual gearbox. The odometer reads around 98,700 miles and the vendor says it has only covered 7,000 miles since a replacement cylinder head. A new clutch was installed in 2023 and it has only covered around 60 miles since. Engine, transmission and electrics are all described as being in ‘excellent’ condition. The desirable ‘J18 TWL’ private plate is also included in the sale.
The W201 Mercedes-Benz 190E was, at launch in 1982, the smallest-ever Mercedes-Benz. It was designed by the famed Bruno Sacco and development stretched right back to 1975. This groundbreaking compact car justified it at launch, with the first five-link rear suspension, the availability of ABS and airbags, plus noteworthy crash safety that put many larger cars to shame. More than 1.8 million were built over its 11-year model lifecycle, ahead of it being replaced by the Mercedes-Benz C-Class in 1993.
In summary:
· 1992 Mercedes-Benz 190E 1.8 manual
