March 2023 Classic & Performance Car Auction

Lot 25

1979 Ford Fiesta 1.1L
Same owner since 1982 *** NO RESERVE ***

Registration - FED 731V

Chassis No. - BAFBWJ395890

M.O.T. - Exempt

Odometer - 71,000

Tough times can require car buyers to reassess their priorities, and if you’re currently seeking an unmolested, tax-exempt runabout with years of potentially trouble-free motoring ahead of it, then ‘FED 731V’ could be just your answer. Finished in white and trimmed in a mix of brown vinyl and brown and white check fabric, it has had just three owners from new. The second acquired the Fiesta when it was three years old and retained it until his passing last year, at which point it was inherited by his son. Unused for the last few years, it will need a modest amount of recommissioning, but has been garaged and well looked after throughout its life. Its condition speaks for itself, and the vendor understandably currently grades the 1.1-litre Kent engine, four-speed manual transmission, three-door bodywork and paintwork as ‘excellent’ and the upholstery as ‘good’. The Fiesta comes complete with Ford push-button radio, its original bill of sale from the C. D. Bramall Group for £3,595, and a large selection of old tax discs and MOTs, plus old and current V5s. The total recorded mileage stands at a very acceptable 70,895 – ie c.1,600 miles per annum. A rare opportunity.

Now in its seventh generation, Ford’s incredibly successful Fiesta is due to be discontinued in June this year, much to the disappointment of its generations of fans. No less than 22 million have been sold during the model’s astonishing 47-year reign, 4.8 million of which found homes in the UK, where it was the top selling model for 12 consecutive years (2009-2020) and the country’s best-selling car of all time. From frugal family car to winner of international rallies, Ford’s famous baby has ticked countless boxes in its reign and will leave a very large automotive hole when it goes.

In summary:

  • A totally original, unmolested three-owner example
  • Garaged and well maintained throughout its life
  • Being sold at No Reserve – a potential bargain
