‘L37 FMC’ is a big turbo model Cossie with Lux specification minus air-conditioning and sunroof. Its engine output has apparently been increased to a very healthy 300bhp, the brakes uprated and the original exhaust replaced with a stainless steel system. Other than that it is very much as it left Karmann’s factory in Osnabrück almost 29 years ago. Currently displaying an apparently genuine total mileage of 68,400 it has been garaged under a cover for much of the last 10 years, with only very occasional use. Its Mallard Green paintwork is teamed with grey cloth interior trim. The vendor informs us that the ‘running gear is in superb condition with no knocks or rattles from cold’ and that the Ford ‘starts and drives superbly’. In summary, he regards the twin-cam turbo engine, five-speed manual gearbox and bodywork as ‘excellent’ (save for a small crack in the rubber front splitter), and the paintwork and interior trim as ‘good’. He is now offering this very collectable fast Ford complete with extensive service history dating back to when it was almost new, all its original manuals, a pair of keys, and a current MOT valid into April of next year. What’s not to like?
Now a firm collectors’ favourite, the Escort RS Cosworth was created for Ford to contest the World Rally Championship, in which it competed between 1993 and 1998, winning eight events in Group A guise and two more in World Rally Car specification. Including the 2,500 examples required for homologation, a total of 7,145 examples were built over the four years of production, making it a rare model with enviable back story.
