As ‘sleeper’ cars go, there are few better than the BMW M5 F10, even when presented in brilliant Monte Carlo Blue as this one is. To many passers-by, the M5 looks like any other 5-Series saloon of the time, but for a few tell-tale clues as to its prodigious performance potential. Widely-rated as one of BMW’s finest M Cars, the M5 features a 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 with seven-speed twin clutch transmission. Producing more than 550hp, this refined and subtle bruiser can cover the classic 0-62mph dash in just 4.3 seconds – that’s true supercar-bothering pace. Especially because the engineers at BMW’s M Division have blessed the M5 with the sort of handling expertise that the Baverian marque has long been famous for. And yet, you can seat four adults in absolute comfort, plus carry plenty of luggage in that practical boot, plus have a practical and usable set of controls, with the M5 capable of transforming from Mr Hyde back to Dr Jekyll for daily life. With four owners from new, ‘YB15 BJF’ is presented well equipped with factory-fitted features such as a head-up display, blue M Power brake callipers, sunroof, and currently fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport tyres. The interior features silver on black dashboard and centre console, with cream leather upholstery, and is described as in excellent condition, as are all other aspects of ‘YB15 BJF’, from engine to paintwork. It’s a car for enthusiasts, previously owned and run by enthusiasts, with an indicated 78,800 miles on the odometer, and comes with a full BMW service history.

The BMW M5 technically began with the E28 model in 1985, though this had a ‘soft-launch’ the year before with the M535i, showing just what BMW’s M Division could do, and how well it would be received; the company hasn’t looked back. Originally featuring a 3.5-litre straight six engine, the first generation M5 E28 was superseded by the E34 model, which saw the fitment of the M1 supercar’s fabulous straight-six under the bonnet. It reinforced the badge perfectly, and established the M5 as one of the practical performance cars of the late 80s. In 1992 it was revised, with adaptive suspension, performance brakes, and a new 3.8-litre engine, before the introduction of the E39 BMW M5 in 1998, which dropped a V8 into the front end. Once again, upping the ante, this 400bhp saloon could crack 62mph from rest in less than five seconds. The 2004-launched BMW M5 E60 is a model that is already slipping into cult-classic status, with styling that has aged beautifully… oh, and it features a 5.0 litre V10. There are very few cars that feature such an engine, let alone one that has motorsport heritage, and also four doors. The F10 generation arrived in 2011, and seemed a little tame by comparison, but this was simply BMW returning to the subtle but sporty roots. It was faster, more powerful, and less rough around the edges, proving a far more refined all-rounder. The ‘30 Jahre’ edition naturally celebrates the 30th anniversary of the M5, dialling power up to just under 600bhp, with a sub-four second sprint time. The M5 is still made, now in F90 specification from 2017; and yes, it’s faster still – the Competition version produces more than 600bhp, with an M5 CS launched in 2021 that takes 3.0 seconds for the 0-62mph dash. So yes, it remains a supercar botherer and has done throughout its life.
