Looking very much the quintessential 1950s British saloon, this pretty RME features cream over green bodywork teamed with a green leather interior. It was purchased by the vendor as a ‘running project’, but a change in circumstances has brought it to market once more. Apparently the clutch requires adjustment or replacement and the brake system is losing fluid. With those problems attended to, he believes the Riley could be returned to the road, though there are other mechanical and body-related issues that will need sorting at some stage. Overall, he describes the car as being in ‘average’ condition and informs us that ‘the engine starts and runs well, with good oil pressure’. Aside of the aforementioned mechanical gremlins, ‘it drives okay and the gearbox is ‘good’. A stainless steel exhaust system has been fitted, but is currently ‘blowing slightly where it adjoins the manifold’. The tyres are ‘old, with cracks on the sidewalls’. The bodywork and paintwork could both benefit from a degree of TLC in certain areas, while the underside was apparently inspected at the time of purchase and ‘appears solid though rusty’. The brightwork is ‘original and average for its age’, and the black Everflex roof covering ‘excellent’. The upholstery is ‘original and pretty good, but the rear headlining needs replacing, along with the carpets’. With the exception of the fog lights, the ancillaries ‘appear to work’, as do the semaphore arms which have been rewired.
‘PGN 802’ now seeks a new keeper with the time and patience to give it a new lease of life. It comes complete with some old MOT certificates, spare wheel and related tools, and a new battery.
