BMW’s E46 range has given us some of the best driving saloons of all time, so it’s no surprise that many now have some pretty hefty mileages under their belt. So, you may have to do a double-take when we tell you that the three keepers of this handsome 323Ci SE have amassed just 2,911 miles between them – that’s an average of 126.5 per annum! Resplendent in metallic gold bodywork that’s teamed with a half-leather beige interior, ‘W189 OCA’ is a well-equipped example whose specification includes: electric windows, electrically operated glass sunroof and front seats (the driver’s one of which has a memory function), boot spoiler and alloy wheels shod with Dunlop Sport tyres. Looking much as it would have when driven off the production line, the BMW is unsurprisingly considered by the vendor to be in ‘excellent’ order in all major respects. A time warp car being offered at No Reserve.
Now in its seventh generation, BMW’s 3 Series is an automotive phenomenon and unique among the world’s executive expresses. Since succeeding the 2002 model in 1975, it has generally accounted for c.30 per cent of the company’s annual car sales, has frequently been the bestselling car in its class, is almost as well known in America, Asia and Australia as it is in Europe, and has increasingly outsold much cheaper rivals. The fourth generation version – code name E46 – was produced from 1997 to 2006, during which time it was available in saloon, coupe, estate and convertible guises and with a range of engines from 1.6 to 3.2-litres. That which powered the popular 323i model from 1998 to 2000 delivered 169bhp and 181 lb ft of torque – sufficient output to combine lively performance with a pleasing level of economy. The E46 generation of 3 Series models has for many enthusiasts proved to be the cream of an excellent crop, and good examples of most versions are increasingly keenly sought. The ensuing E90 range was another fine offering, but of a different character.
