According to Experian Autocheck, this very tidy two-door Minor 1000 has had just six keepers in its 53-year reign, the first of whom retained it for no less than 31 years, while the most recent has owned it since 2018. Finished in light blue with matching blue door cards and carpets and contrasting cream upholstery, it boasts an extensive selection of upgrades. These include more modern reclining front seats (the original items are included in the sale), an A-frame for towing the vehicle behind a motorhome, underbonnet electrics that can connect to such a tow vehicle and negate the need for lightboard, luggage rack, pair of door-mounted rear view mirrors, full width metal sun visor, headlamp eyebrows, badge bar, tow pack, rear-mounted auxiliary light, temperature gauge and ammeter. The vendor currently considers the 1098cc A Series engine and four-speed manual transmission to be in ‘excellent’ order and the bodywork, paintwork and interior trim to be in ‘good’ condition. The odometer currently registers a low but eminently credible total mileage of just 38,070.
With over 1.3 million examples manufactured in its 23-year reign, the Morris Minor is one of the most successful British cars of all time. Designed by Alec Issigonis (who later penned the ubiquitous Mini), the Minor was unveiled at the 1948 Earls Court Motor Show and 13 years later became the first British car to achieve a million sales. The final iteration followed a year later and featured an increase in engine capacity to 1098cc, a modified facia layout with recessed centre section in textured steel, the return of a glovebox lid for the passenger-side cubby hole, improved heater and more contemporary–looking front light units.
