September 2022 Classics Auction

Lot 30

1946 Wolseley 18/85 Police Car
*** NO RESERVE ***

Registration - HKR 921

Chassis No. - 318/4029

M.O.T. - Exempt

Odometer - 24,483

In common with so many cars of its era, ‘HKR 921’ is finished in black and trimmed in brown leather. However, the condition of the car is something to savour, and it is unsurprising that the vendor ranks the engine, four-speed manual transmission, four-door bodywork, paintwork and upholstery as all being in ‘excellent’ condition. Its CV includes participation in the 1996 film ‘Intimate Relations’, starring Julie Walters, and a roll in the Queen’s 2006 Birthday Celebrations. The Wolseley is now being offered complete with sunroof, auxiliary driving lights and rooftop police sign and bell, plus a fine collection of old tax discs and a 1992 invoice for a bespoke stainless exhaust system. A splendid classic that could be enjoyed by the new owner or rented out for film and TV work.

The Wolseley 18/85 was launched in 1938 and, having ceased production during the war years, resumed manufacture in the autumn of 1945. Some 8,213 example are understood to have been made between then and the models replacement by the 6/80 in 1948. The four-door 18/85 was powered by a twin-carburettor OHV straight-six engine of 2,322cc, a unit it shared with the contemporaneous MG SA.

'A Buyer’s Premium applies to the Hammer Price of this Lot if your bid is successful, as per the following;  Motor Cars 12.5% + VAT (minimum £150 + VAT), Motorcycles and Bicycles 15% + VAT (minimum £100 + VAT); Registration Numbers 15% + VAT (minimum £50 + VAT); Automobilia 15% + VAT (minimum of £5 + VAT).'
