‘S51 DBD’ was first registered in August 1998. Its silver bodywork is matched to grey leather upholstery, the effect of which is enhanced by wood trim on the facia, central console and door cards. The big Vauxhall’s had just four keepers to date, the most recent of whom has retained it for 16 years. It is equipped with a stainless steel exhaust system and the timing belt and water pump have recently been replaced. The vendor presently classes its V6 engine, automatic transmission and interior as ‘excellent’ and the bodywork and paintwork as ‘average’. The Omega’s modest mileage of 56,230 is supported by the car’s MOT history and it is now being offered complete with glass sunroof, heated seats, carpet mats, Philips radio/cassette and a current MOT valid to August 24 next year. A potential bargain at ‘No Reserve’.
Penned by General Motors’ noted stylist Wayne Cherry, the Omega was an executive cross-market saloon sold as an Opel in Germany and Vauxhall in the UK, where it replaced the long-serving Carlton. Introduced in 1994, the B1 version was well appointed and when fitted, as per the sale car, with the largest of the engine options – a lusty 3.0-litre V6 of 208bhp – it was capable of sprinting to 60mph in nine seconds and on to a top speed of c.150mph. The combination of such performance, predictable rearwheel drive handling and capacious interior made the model a favourite of many UK police forces. However, as with many models from the same era, few Omegas remain in service, and one source suggests ‘S51 DBD’ could be one of only 10 Omegas currently running on UK roads.
