September 2022 Classics Auction

Lot 32

1998 Range Rover 2.5 DSE
*** NO RESERVE ***

Registration - S142 XAL

Chassis No. - SALLPAMW3WA396530

M.O.T. - August 2022

Odometer - 127,523

As aficionados will know, P38As do not grow on trees, and one-owner examples most definitely do not, but that is what we have here. First registered in September 1998, it features metallic green bodywork teamed with a contrasting cream leather interior. The vendor confirms that it does drive, and grades the 4x4 transmission as ‘good’, the diesel engine as ‘below average’, and the bodywork, paintwork and upholstery as ‘poor to below average’. The car comes complete with tow hook and Alpine stereo and is expected to have a new battery by the time of the sale. The odometer currently stands at 127,523 miles.

Twenty-five years after its triumphant introduction, what’s now known as the Range Rover ‘Classic’ gave way to the second generation of the model (code name P38A). By then the Rover’s original workmanlike persona had been completely transformed – long gone were the hose-down rubber flooring and basic trim, which had been replaced by increasingly deep pile carpets, leather upholstery and wood finishings. The newcomer brought a strengthened chassis and less boxy exterior, while power was now provided by upgraded 4.0 and 4.6-litre versions of Rover’s ubiquitous all-alloy V8 engine or, a 2.5-litre form of BMW’s M51 six-cylinder diesel unit.

'A Buyer’s Premium applies to the Hammer Price of this Lot if your bid is successful, as per the following;  Motor Cars 12.5% + VAT (minimum £150 + VAT), Motorcycles and Bicycles 15% + VAT (minimum £100 + VAT); Registration Numbers 15% + VAT (minimum £50 + VAT); Automobilia 15% + VAT (minimum of £5 + VAT).'

Potential buyers should satisfy themselves with the description and condition of each lot prior to sale. Each vehicle is offered ‘as is/as seen’ as per the terms and conditions for the auction, buyers are asked to inspect the vehicle in person or use a professional to carry out the service. Any disputes over descriptions will not be entertained.
