The Bolesworth Castle March 2025 Classic, Performance & Supercar Auction

Lot 33

1971 Ginetta G15
***NO RESERVE*** Much cherished, enthusiast-owned example with only around 30 miles covered since the engine rebuild

Registration – XJH 33J

Chassis No. – 0199

M.O.T. – Exempt

Odometer – 4,103

‘XJH33J’ hails from 1971 and presents in Series III form, notable for the larger rear quarter lights and split front bumper. ‘XJH33J’ has been cherished and enjoyed by seven keepers to date, a surprisingly low number for a 50 plus year old car. The previous MOT history shows that ‘XJH33J’ has been very lightly used in recent times with less than 2,000 miles covered since 2005. This example boasts the bigger 998cc Hillman Imp engine and has further benefitted from a full engine rebuild in 2024. This has reportedly performed to a high standard with the car fully dyno tested thereafter. Only around 30 miles have been covered since the engine rebuild. Less than 250 of the Series III cars were built with ‘XJH33J’s’ chassis number of 0199 fitting that provenance. With ‘XJH33J’s’ age classifying it as an Historic Vehicle, this Ginetta can be immediately enjoyed with its MOT exemption and zero rated road tax.

Ginetta Cars were founded in the 1950’s by the four Walklett brothers and started out building fibreglass bodies for Ford chassis. Their first fully fledged car was the G2 kit car which looked similar to the Lotus 7 of the day. The G15 arrived in 1967 following Ginetta’s agreement with the Rootes Group to utilise Hillman Imp engines. The Series III was launched in 1970 to tap into the burgeoning demand for this fast, agile British sports car. The standard G15 cost £899 in 1970 and offered cost options such as a heater, seat belts and even a “sunshine roof” for a princely £35.00. Even with the smaller, standard 875cc Imp engine Ginetta was quoting a 100mph top speed, an 8.6 second 0-60 mph and an excellent 50 mpg.

‘XJH33J’s’ diminutive fibreglass body presents in a vivid blue livery, with a sleek, low nose and a generously glazed cabin. The car’s wheelarches are generously filled by the 13-inch Minilite style alloy wheels which underscore what a tiddler the Ginetta is. A matching set of Vredstein 165/70 tyres are fitted and date stamped from 2021. The two seater cabin is nicely trimmed in black and features as pair of fixed back Corbeau GT bucket seats with body matching accents. A comprehensive set of white on black, mostly Smiths, gauges are fitted. The vendor reports ‘XJH33J’s’ engine and gearbox as “excellent” with all other aspects of the Ginetta as “good.”

In summary:

· One of just 249 MKIII cars ever made

· Fresh from a full and high-quality engine rebuild

· Boasting a bright and fresh looking livery
