The Gold Cup Classic & Performance Car Auction

Lot 35

1975 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow II
***NO RESERVE*** A genuine barn find and rewarding project opportunity

Registration - KIB 5126

Chassis No. - SRH20379

M.O.T. - Exempt

Odometer - TBC

A rare and genuine barn-find opportunity, this Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow II is offered at No Reserve. Presented in white bodywork, ‘KIB 5126’ comes fitted with Rolls-Royce’s 6.75-litre V8, matched to an automatic transmission. The cabin - once restored - will be up to the standards one would expect from a Rolls-Royce of any era, and is upholstered in blue leather to complement the white exterior. A black vinyl roof completes the exterior, with matching black and white wheels, and chrome to highlight design elements.

On only the fifth keeper in almost 50 years since ‘KIB 5126’ was first registered, the current owner says it was last on the road 32 years ago. Since then it has been left standing in a barn, alongside a Jaguar E-type also offered for auction here, where time has taken its toll on the Rolls-Royce. Mileage is TBC, and there is no publicly available DVLA information on this model, because of its extended time off the road. Having last been on the road more than 30 years ago, it clearly shows the signs of dereliction, but would make an ideal project for someone.

The Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow was introduced in 1965 to replace the Silver Cloud, and showcased a major modernisation from the world-famous luxury car maker. A modern design, body, and chassis were brought into production, as well as features such as disc brakes and independent rear suspension. These developments helped combat an ageing image for the luxury manufacturer, and used a 6.25-litre V8, shared with stable-mate Bentley. In 1977, because of the significant number of changes made, the Silver Shadow II was launched, which included rack-and-pinion steering, rubber and alloy bumpers in the United States to meet crash regulations, and the removal of the small grilles beneath the headlights. The Silver Shadow II retained the self-levelling hydropneumatic suspension, built under licence from Citroen, and carried over the three speed Turbo-Hydramatic automatic transmission that had been introduced later on in the Silver Shadow’s life, replacing the four-speed automatic initially offered. Production lasted until 1980, by which time more than 25,000 Silver Shadow and Silver Shadow II models were built.

In summary:

  • Genuine barn-find 1975 Silver Shadow II
  • Offered at no reserve
  • Fantastic project opportunity
