The Bolesworth Castle March 2024 Classic & Performance Car Auction

Lot 36

1980 Leyland Mini 1275GT
Fitted with a turbo engine

Registration – LVO 920W

Chassis No. – XE2D2000720302

M.O.T. – Exempt

Odometer – 50,004

This Leyland Mini 1275 GT with a twist fitted with the turbocharged engine from a MG Metro Turbo this pocket-rocket finished in Tahiti Blue, with white detailing and roof. ‘LVO 920W’ also features a sunroof, wide wheel arches, front fog-lights, and sits on 13” Superlight alloy wheels shod with Yokohama tyres, the modifications also include AP Racing front brake calipers and adjustable GAZ coilover suspension. This model is a late example of the Mini Clubman range. The vendor describes this example as ‘good’ across the board – covering engine, transmission, interior, bodywork, electrics, and paint – and has covered a modest 50,004 miles according to the odometer.

'At last – a comfortable Mini’ was Motor magazine’s take on the 1275 GT/Clubman at its introduction in 1969. There were pros and cons to the alternative design – its longer nose offered far better crash protection and infinitely superior under-bonnet access. It was also an altogether better equipped car, but was inevitably more expensive and also aerodynamically inferior to the classic 1959 option. A total of 110,673 1275 GTs and 275,583 Clubman saloons were ultimately produced.

In summary:

  • Fitted with a turbo charged engine
  • Striking late example of the Leyland Mini 1275 GT
  • Fantastic style with widened wheel arches, rally-style fog lamps, and white detailing
