Odometer - 70 (Since rebuild)
This pretty Racing Green MGB roadster has apparently only just emerged from a £28,000 restoration by IK Sport Classic of Holmfirth, since when it has travelled just 70 miles! The vendor informs us that the rebuild included extensive body repairs and the installation of some new panels; a total respray; and a full mechanical rebuild. Among the many new parts installed were: radiator, exhaust, alternator, fuel tank and in-tank pump; brake discs, drums and servo. Evidently the engine had already been refurbished by the previous owner, so the vendor now believes that everything requiring attention has been dealt with. He now considers the B Series powerplant, overdrive gearbox, bodywork and paintwork to be in ‘excellent’ order and the black vinyl interior trim to be in ‘good to excellent’ condition. He is now offering the roadster complete with Moto-Lita woodrim steering wheel, tonneau cover, alloy rocker cover, and a collection of old MOTs and invoices concerning the restoration etc.
Introduced in the May of 1962, the monocoque MGB was a welcome progression from the body-on-frame T-Series and MGA models that preceded it. The more modern construction resulted in weight savings, reduced manufacturing costs and notably tauter handling. Suspension was by wishbones and coil springs at the front, and a live axle mounted on leaf springs at the rear. Damping was by lever arm units all round. Braking was by discs at the front and drums at the rear. Power came from a 1,798cc version of the BMC B Series engine producing 95bhp at 5,400 rpm. The MKII model of 1967 brought an updated manual gearbox with revised ratios and synchromesh on all gears, a revised rear axle and a switch from dynamos to alternators.
