The Bolesworth Castle November 2024 Classic, Performance & Supercar Auction

Lot 37

1989 Ford Orion 1.6I Ghia
***NO RESERVE*** A rare survivor of a 80s cult classic in highly original condition

Registration - G185 PRR

Chassis No. - WF0FXXGCAFKC02915

M.O.T. - No

Odometer - 89,000

This distinctive 1989 Ford Orion 1.6i Ghia Injection, offered at No Reserve, is a rare find that, among Ford enthusiasts, is a cult classic. Effectively the Orion four-door alternative to the Ford Escort XR3i, it has the same 1.6-litre fuel injected CVH engine and five-speed manual gearbox. This car has an odometer reading just 89,000 miles and engine, transmission and electrics are described as ‘excellent’. The vendor says it was a garage find after being stored in the dry for many years. “Totally authentic and original, the car has been lovingly restored, including a full engine overhaul and extensive coachworks. It now shows minimal signs of rust, with no previous accident damage noted.”

‘G185PRR’ has an interior that’s completely original, with all trim and upholstery only showing minor age-related wear and tear, otherwise being in great condition. It has the original Ford stereo and Ghia Injection-spec amplifier – and this car comes with the desirable Ford trip computer. The vendor adds that it has the original book pack and a collection of old bills, including some surviving documentation and previous MOTs. Notably, this 36-year-old car has had just two previous keepers.

The Ford Orion is the saloon version of the Ford Escort. Introduced in 1983, it offered a traditional alternative to the futuristic Escort hatchback, and proved popular particularly amongst traditional Ford Cortina drivers who were put off by the aero-look new Ford Sierra. More than 3.5 million were sold in a 10-year period, and the Orion was a regular top-10 best-seller in the UK during the 1980s. The Orion 1.6i Ghia Injection is one of the most collectable Orions, due to its range-topping status and Ford Escort XR3i performance.

  • Rare and collectable Ford Orion 1.6i Ghia Injection offered at No Reserve
  • A garage find that’s been fully restored
  • Fully original and even includes the rare Ford trip computer
