Registration – S177 UCA
Chassis No. – JMZNB186200116608
M.O.T. – July 2025
Odometer – 43,700
This outstanding 1998 Mazda MX-5 is unlike so many others on the market. An immaculate and original example, its cherished condition is described as being ‘excellent’ throughout, with an odometer reading just 43,700 miles. The vendor acquired the car in 2024 and, prior to that, it had just two previous keepers – the same family (mum and son), plus one. The mother bought it new in November 1998, choosing over £900 in optional extras. This can be seen from the original invoice which is include in an “amazing folder full of service history”. ‘S177 UCA’ has three sets of keys and the full book pack.
This 1.6-litre Mazda MX-5 has refurbished alloys, four new tyres and a mohair roof. It has been garaged from new, says the vendor, and is in “beautiful condition – the interior is like new”. It was last serviced in July 2024, where the ECU was also repaired. There is a receipt for £1,150 for this work. The underside has recently been protected too, again with a receipt. “It has no rust,” says the vendor, “has never been welded and doesn’t need any.”
The legendary Mazda MX-5 was introduced in 1989 after being lovingly crafted by a crack team of experts during the 1980s. The original idea actually dated back to the 1970s, as an inexpensive, simple, classically British sports car. It took the engineering expertise of Mazda to revive a concept that had died out by the time of its launch – and the quite brilliant original MX-5 quickly took the world by storm. Developed across multiple generations, has gone on to be the best-selling two-seat convertible sports car in history, with its record growing all the time; it will probably never be matched. As a car with perfect weight distribution, neutral handling and an indulgently controllable simplicity even on the limit, it is easy to see why the Guinness World Record-holding Mazda MX-5 continues to be loved.
