1961 Chevrolet Corvette
Engine upgraded to a 5.4L V8

If you want a classic with real presence, then look no further than this splendidly-presented Vette. Its grey-coved Ermine White bodywork contrasts perfectly with the car’s strident red interior, recently restored black hood and abundance of lustrous brightwork. Being a late 1961 example, it features the chrome headlights and bumpers of the earlier C1s but the boat tail rear end that was carried over and became a feature of the C2. The vendor acquired the Chevy from the mid-west of America before shipping it to the UK some five years ago. At some stage its original powerplant has been replaced by a 5.4-litre V8 unit from a ‘65 Camaro that’s been uprated courtesy of a recently-rebuilt Holley carburettor, custom Hooker exhaust manifolds and twin Magnaflow exhaust system – we understand the resulting sound is ‘truly amazing and turns lots of heads’. The unit drives through a four-speed manual gearbox topped by an original Hurst lever. The interior is a feast for lovers of ‘60s Americana, where the recently renewed instrument cluster, restored seats, mottled carpets and carpet mats, leather rimmed steering wheel and seat belts form a veritable sea of red. The sound system has been upgraded thanks to a later Wonder Bar radio linked to a new dashboard speaker and additional footwell units, through all of which music can be streamed via Bluetooth.

The car’s black steel wheels are secreted behind a set of highly-polished original hubcaps and shod with a new set of BFGoodrich Radial TA tyres that provide the Chevy with the muscular stance of a later model. Fully UK compliant, this lovely lefthand drive sports car is now offered complete with various items of paperwork and a pair of keys.

In summary:

  • A very attractive example imported to the UK c.2017
  • Powered by an uprated 1965 5.4-litre Camaro engine
  • Boasts an upgraded sound system and new BFGoodrich tyres
