September 2022 Classics Auction

Lot 40

1985 Range Rover Vogue EFI
Superbly presented with the benefit of a galvanised chassis

Registration - C180 LUX

Chassis No. - SALLHAML3CA153602

M.O.T. - TBC

Odometer - TBC

Good Range Rover Classics generally have little trouble finding new homes and ‘C180 LUX’ has a number of points in its favour. Firstly, it is a dual fuel example that will run on both Autogas LPG or petrol. Furthermore, accepting that Range Rovers have been known to suffer from the tin worm, it is good to learn that the chassis bodyframe and rear quarter panels are fully galvanised and that the doors have been repaired and there is ‘no rot’. The paintwork is also fresh, the Vogue having been resprayed as recently 18 months ago. The vendor informs us that ‘C180 LUX’ has been serviced regularly and all the hoses, fluids and belts were changed earlier this year. He now considers the 3.5-litre V8 engine, three-speed automatic transmission, bodywork and silver paintwork to be in ‘excellent’ order, and the grey fabric upholstery to be ‘good’. Since purchasing the Range Rover back in 1993, he has successfully employed it for an aid mission to St Petersburg, and is now offering this apparently well-sorted vehicle for sale complete with full tow pack, radio/cassette and an extensive history file covering the last 29 years. The intention is for it to also have a brand new MOT by the time of the sale.

Far from competing with the likes of the Ford Bronco that had inspired its creation, the David Bache-penned Range Rover created a whole new genre of go-anywhere vehicles. It was based around a box section chassis and steel ‘safety frame’ onto which lightweight outer panels were bolted. Power came from the ubiquitous Rover V8 – initially in 3.5-litre guise. Suspension was by long travel coil springs all-round and braking by discs front and rear.

In summary:

  • Benefits from a well-protected body and chassis
  • Resprayed as recently as 18 months ago
  • Converted to run on both petrol and LPG

'A Buyer’s Premium applies to the Hammer Price of this Lot if your bid is successful, as per the following;  Motor Cars 12.5% + VAT (minimum £150 + VAT), Motorcycles and Bicycles 15% + VAT (minimum £100 + VAT); Registration Numbers 15% + VAT (minimum £50 + VAT); Automobilia 15% + VAT (minimum of £5 + VAT).'
