This magnificent 1997 Bentley Continental R is described by the vendor as a “lovely example” of what was, at launch, the world’s most expensive production car. It has been “extremely well cared for,” with the engine, transmission, bodywork, interior, and electrics all confirmed to be in ‘excellent’ condition. Accompanied by a full service history, ‘P100 RMA’ has had just five previous keepers, the most recent owning it for six years. The car benefits from a full MOT valid until July 2026.
Originally supplied by Ron Stratton & Co Rolls Royce & Bentley Knutsford, it has subsequently been maintained by P&A Wood Essex, Broughtons of Cheltenham, The Chelsea Workshop, and more recently a well-respected independent Rolls Royce & Bentley specialist, with stamped service history up to 57,421 miles.
Registered in May 1997, this Continental R presents regally in sparkling blue metallic, featuring the iconic flying ‘B’ winged Bentley grille. The cream leather interior is complemented by thick blue carpets matching the seat piping, alongside hand-crafted wood veneer and chrome-ringed instruments, enhancing the sense of theatre and luxury. Additional features include a leather roof liner, heated electrically-operated seats with memory function, and a sport mode for the automatic transmission.
The Bentley Continental R lineage began with the 1985 ‘Project 90’ prototype and was officially launched in 1992 as the first Bentley coupe in decades not to share styling with Rolls-Royce. Powered by a 6.75-litre turbocharged V8, it offered a 0-60mph time of 6.6 seconds and carried a price tag of £178,000 at launch — equivalent to nearly £400,000 today.
