‘BNF68B’ is a striking looking example of the much admired Volvo 122 or “Amazon” saloon. First registered in July 1964, ‘BNF68B’ has been the beneficiary of much restorative work and ongoing maintenance. A full engine rebuild was reportedly undertaken around eight years ago, to include the carburettors, with a later five speed manual gearbox from a Volvo 240 fitted at that stage. Recent work includes the fitting of a new alternator and wiring along with a new timing belt kit, new plugs and leads and new fuel float gaskets and fuel pipe. With only around 2,000 miles covered since the engine rebuild, the vendor reports that ‘BNF68B’ runs and drives well. With an MOT exemption based on age and a zero rating for vehicle excise duty, ‘BNF68B’ is ready and willing to get out and about, turning heads.

‘BNF68B’ is awash with visual charm and character. The predominantly bright red paintwork suits the Amazon’s ponton style aesthetic very well indeed. The cream hue applied to the roof panel, combined with the tinted red windscreen shade and gutter mounted roof rack only adds to the period look and feel of ‘BNF68B.’ The body’s condition has benefitted from the fitment of many new panels to include inner and outer sills and boot floor. The vendor reports the underside and wheel arches of ‘BNF68B’ to be “solid and corrosion-free.” Some minor areas of rust are noted on the bonnet, boot lid, and front and rear panel. There is also a repair patch on the rear quarter that has been primed but not painted. The vendor appraised the body and paintwork as “average.” To accompany the more recent gearbox, ‘BNF68B’ is fitted with the erstwhile B18 1.8-litre four cylinder Volvo engine. The transmission is vendor rated as “average” as are the electrics (with the indicators noted as currently not working), whilst the engine warrants a “good” rating.

Other sundry works undertaken include the fitting of a new headlining, new windscreen rubbers, and boot seal, new copper and flexible brake pipes together with a new brake servo unit. New rear coil springs have been fitted, and the Bosch battery dates from 2023. In addition, ‘BNF68B’ is offered complete with a raft of useful spares including the original gearbox and associated fittings, flywheel, clutch assemblies and complete prop shaft. A spare boot lid and hinges, a spare rear passenger door and dashboard and cover are also on hand.

In summary:

· A striking and characterful example of the revered Volvo Amazon

· In good running and driving order with tax and MOT exemptions

· Complete with a useful trove of useful and valuable spare parts

Estimated at £4,000 - £6,000
