‘NTF 136M’ is a Triumph GT6 from 1973 making it a MKIII version and the final iteration of the diminutive coupe. ‘NTF 136M’ has been the recipient of a number of upgrades, not least of which is an enlarged 2.5 litre version of the straight six engine that gave the GT its suffix. ‘NTF 136M’ was restored around 16 years ago but, in more recent times, has a good deal of work undertaken to result in the reportedly nicely running example that it is today. Hardened valve seats have been fitted to allow ‘NTF 136M’ to run on unleaded fuel. ‘NTF 136M’ is classified as an Historic Vehicle and so is MOT exempt and zero rated for road tax. Earlier MOT records show that less than 5,000 miles have been covered in the last 20 years or so. Being sold complete with a good level of accompanying paperwork.
The Triumph GT6 was originally a Michelotti design based on the Spitfire. The extra weight associated with the handsome coupe styling, however, was too heavy for the original Spitfire’s 1100cc engine. The model was shelved. It was only after the racing Spitfires adopted the body for more aerodynamic advantage that the model was resurrected, this time with the 2-litre straight six engine from the Vitesse. ‘NTF 136M’ left the Coventry factory in a white livery but has enjoyed a colour change to black in the intervening years. A number of other upgrades seem to have been made including non-standard bumpers, bonnet side vents and aftermarket alloy wheels. The interior is finished in black cloth and retains a good level of originality retaining the original sporting cues. The vendor rates paintwork, bodywork and interior as “good.”
As well as that enlarged engine and unleaded-friendly valve seats, plenty of recent mechanical attention has been lavished on ‘NTF 136M.’ This work includes the fitment of a new distributor, leads and plugs, carburettors rebuilt and balanced and a new manifold fitted. ‘NTF 136M’ features a four speed manual transmission with switchable overdrive. All mechanical facets of this GT6 are rated as “good.”
In summary:
· An impressive looking GT6 with a number of modifications
· Compete with an enlarged 2.5-litre engine running on unleaded fuel
· Comes with a good level of accompanying paperwork
