November 2021 Classics Auction

Lot 44

1989 Jaguar Sovereign
*** NO RESERVE ***

Registration - F372 YLV

Chassis No. - SAJJHALH3AA581552

M.O.T. - January 2022

Odometer - 108,723

‘F372 YLV’ has been in its present ownership for the past 28 years, during which time it has been cherished, garaged overnight and driven for just 11,000 miles.

The vendor informs us that the 3.6-litre engine, automatic transmission and other mechanicals are all in ‘excellent’ order, as is the cream leather interior, and he describes the bodywork and metallic blue paintwork as ‘good’. He also advises that the car has ‘sailed through’ every MOT during his lengthy tenure. The accompanying history file contains the related MOT certificates, which between them confirm the total indicated mileage of 108,723 as being correct - the vast majority of it was accrued by the car’s original keeper, an American manager of a petroleum company in Ellesmere Port. This handsome luxury saloon comes complete with period correct alloy wheels and handy tow bar. Offered at No Reserve, it represents an enticing opportunity to acquire a much-loved example of one of Jaguar’s most enduring models.

Jaguar introduced the XJ40 in 1986. The second generation of the iconic XJ, it was launched to replace the Series III, though the latter was not fully discontinued until 1992. The XJ40’s styling was more angular than its predecessors, and the new generation range featured technological advances such as an electronic instrument cluster. The Jaguar Sovereign benefited from many more standard features than the base XJ6 model, including leather upholstery, alloy wheels, burr walnut trim, anti-lock brakes, air conditioning, headlamp washers and a six-speaker sound system. It also had stainless steel window frames, compared to the black powder-coated ones on the base model, and two rectangular headlamps rather than a quartet of circular ones.

In summary:

  • A two owner car that’s remained in the same ownership for the last 28 years
  • Garaged overnight and driven just 11,000 miles since 1993
  • Offered at No Reserve
