The Mazda MX-5, or Miata in some markets, arrived in 1989 to much acclaim as a true modern representation of the Lotus Elan ethos. Hailing from 1990 makes ‘H138 CLG’ a desirable first generation example with the pop-up headlamps. ‘H138 CLG’ was originally supplied to the Japanese domestic market before being imported to the UK in 2008. Since then, ‘H138 CLG’ has been enjoyed by eight registered keepers and has accrued a recorded 128,641 km (a shade under 80,000 miles). ‘H138 CLG’ is reported to “run really well,” comes with some history and paperwork together with the Japanese book pack. Offered here with no reserve and with a valid MOT until October 2025. Just the job for the approaching summer.
‘H138 CLG’ looks good in the popular Emerald Green with those distinctive first generation pop-up headlamps in evidence on the sloping nose. An eye-catching set of 15-inch, MX-5 emblazoned alloy wheels with new looking tyres are fitted and ‘H138 CLG’ appears to exhibit a lowered stance. A large boot lid spoiler is also present, and the black vinyl hood looks to be in good shape and fits tightly. The first generation interior is nicely fitted and finished in a light tan colourway. The familiar, tombstone backed seats are fitted compete with the integral headrest speakers. A chunky, wood rimmed Nardi style three spoked steering wheel is also present with a wooden gear knob and handbrake handle also noted. A contemporary head unit is also fitted. The bodywork, paintwork and electrics all earn a “good” rating.
The earlier cars, like ‘H138 CLG,’ feature a 1.6L four cylinder, fuel injected, petrol engine originally producing around 115bhp. With a sub 1,000 kg kerb weight this was more than enough for some spirited road dynamics with a 120 mph plus top speed 9-second 0-60 mph time. A five speed manual gearbox feeds power to the rear wheels. The engine, transmission and electrics are rated a “good.”
In summary:
· Desirable, first generation MX-5 offered with no reserve
· Popular livery of Emerald Green over Light Tan
· Complete with current MOT and a partial service history
