Registration - M166 FRH
Chassis No. - WDB124 04 22C077531
M.O.T. - July 2021
Odometer - 88,500
Such is the grace of Mercedes’ W124 coupe, ‘M166 FRH’ would be equally suitable for attending classic British social events like Glyndebourne and Ascot Ladies’ Day as performing official duties at a friend’s wedding, for which the car’s all-white bodywork would be ideal. A six-owner example currently displaying 88,500 miles from new, the Benz is regarded by the vendor as having ‘excellent’ bodywork, paintwork, grey cloth interior, and 2.2-litre four-cylinder engine, and ‘good’ automatic transmission. He informs us that there are ‘no visible signs of rust’, that the period correct alloy wheels are in ‘excellent condition’ and that he believes the car to be ‘a good driver and well above average in all ways’. It comes equipped with factory-fitted sunroof, electric windows and radio/cassette player. There is apparently no service book, but such items of paperwork as main dealer receipts, original newspaper adverts in which the car was listed, health checks, and a current MOT valid until July 16 this year are included. Great value in today’s market.
Introduced in 1984, Mercedes’ W124 line-up was available with petrol engines from 2.0 to 5.0-litres and diesel ones from 2.0 to 3.0-litres, while body options comprised saloon, coupe, estate and cabriolet. When announced, the model’s drag coefficient of 0.28 was one of the lowest of any car on sale, and it featured many items of advanced technology – eg a single windscreen wiper with eccentric pivot, and an exhaust oxygen sensor. Safety was also a key feature, and the car was designed to withstand an offset crash into a concrete barrier at 35mph without serious harm to the occupants. Height adjustable seat belts with pretensioners were standard up front and a driver’s side airbag a relatively novel option.
