September 2022 Classics Auction

Lot 47

1998 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution V

Registration - R583 LVE

Chassis No. - CP9A-0006060

M.O.T. - September 2023

Odometer - 82,300

This splendid-looking EVO was imported for the vendor in 2017 by Torque GT, at which point it was treated to a new radiator, timing belt kit, head gasket, a service and Dinitrol underseal treatment, while the odometer was converted to miles, for which a certificate was provided. The following year the engine was remapped for use with 97 RON fuel and a full fluid service carried out, since when the car has only been used in the summer months and serviced by a local specialist every spring. A CarVX Japanese HPI check revealed no issues, with the mileage tying in as it should. Before leaving Japan the EVO was lightly modified courtesy of: a Kakimoto cat back exhaust system; HKS induction kit; HKS adjustable coilovers, Nardi steering wheel (a standard wheel is included in the lot); GReddy boost gauge; and Defi water and oil temperature gauges. Recent attention has included: the fitment of a new alternator, correct EVO V centre caps, gear knob and gaiter; refurbishment of the wheels, and attainment of an advisory-free MOT that’s valid until September 5 next year. The vendor describes ‘R583 LVE’ as a ‘very good, solid/rot-free example’, and grades the engine and five-speed manual gearbox as ‘excellent’, and the bodywork, white paintwork and black interior trim as ‘good’.

Mitsubishi’s Evo has been with us since 1992, during which time there have been 10 generations, each comprising a 2-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine powering a fourwheel drive, four-door saloon. The EVO V reigned for exactly one year from January 1998 and brought a number of changes that included: flared arches front and rear, new adjustable alloy rear spoiler, 10mm increase in track; increase in wheel diameter from 16 to 17 inches in order to accommodate Brembo brakes; an increase in engine torque to 373Nm. Power output, however, remained the same at 276bhp.

In summary:

  • A seemingly very good, well-cared for example
  • Comes with a selection of desirable upgrades
  • Accompanied by a combination of UK and Japanese history
