The Bolesworth Castle March 2025 Classic, Performance & Supercar Auction

Lot 52

2004 Mitsubishi Evo VIII MR FQ-340

Registration – SJZ 6658

Chassis No. – CT9A0302619

M.O.T. – February 2026

Odometer – 73,000

A striking and stealthy example of the rally-bred saloon car, this Mitsubishi Evo VIII is the desirable MR FQ340 version. ‘MR’ stands for Mitsubishi racing, 340 indicates the power – and we won’t disclose what ‘FQ’ is rumoured to stand for, in case children are reading. This has been an enthusiast-owned car that comes with a detailed printout of work done; it is believed to have had more than £20,000 spent on it. Notable upgrades include an Evo 9 turbocharger and upgraded alloys. Interior highlights include grey and black cloth Ralliart-branded seats plus individual model numbering next to the six-speed gearlever: this is MR FQ340 number 84.

‘SJZ6658’ has been registered in Ireland at some point (it was registered in the UK in 2011 and comes complete with the V5), and has had four previous keepers. Its odometer reads 73,000 miles. The vendor describes the engine, transmission, electrics and bodywork as in ‘excellent’ condition, with ‘good’ paintwork and interior. Although the service book does not have a lot of detail, the vendor says the car comes with the original key complete with high-security immobiliser fob.

The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution was a long-running rally-bred saloon car range that ran across 10 ‘Evolutions’ from 1992 to 2016. The formula was always the same: a high-performance four-cylinder turbo engine and all-wheel drive, developed with performance and handling as top priorities. This car, an Evolution VII, was introduced in 2003. By now, the formula was well-honed, with the electronic four-wheel drive now having an active centre differential (ACD) and active yaw control (AYC). The Mitsubishi Racing (MR) even had a lightweight roof to lower the centre of gravity, along with the distinctive rooftop ‘vortex generator’.
