Lot 55

1992 Bentley Eight

Registration - K302 EUW

Chassis No. - SCBZE00AXNCH44511

M.O.T. - April 2022

Odometer - 78,840

This decidedly handsome Bentley Eight can be readily distinguished by its red-piped grey hide Mulsanne interior trim package and Turbo alloy wheels, the combined effect of which greatly complement the Dark Oyster Metallic bodywork. The vendor informs us that the suspension and air-conditioning have benefited from recent servicing, that the brakes have been renewed all round, and the alloy wheels refurbished and shod with new tyres. He presently regards the bodywork, paintwork, interior trim, V8 engine and automatic transmission as all being in ‘excellent’ condition. The odometer currently registers a wholly credible though unwarranted 74,865 miles from new, and ‘K302 EUW’ is now offered complete with a current MOT certificate valid to April 8 next year. According to the vendor, just 29 Bentley Eights were produced in 1992, ‘making the model a rarer as well as more reliable proposition than its Turbo sibling’.

The Eight was an entry level model based on the Mulsanne and aimed at a younger clientele. Introduced in 1984, it could readily be distinguished by its wire mesh rather than slatted radiator grille. It deliberately lacked some of the Mulsanne’s luxury equipment, but benefited from a firmer suspension that resulted in tauter handling. Power came from Bentley’s ubiquitous 6750 cc V8 unit mated to a three-speed (four-speed on the later models) automatic gearbox. Suspension was independent by coil springs front and rear, coupled with hydraulic self-levelling height control at the back. Braking was by ventilated discs at the front and solid units at the rear. Initially only available in the UK, the model became so popular that sales were expanded to include Europe and the USA. The Eight was superseded by the Bentley Brooklands in 1992 after a total of 1,736 had been produced.

In summary:

  • An apparently excellent example
  • Benefits from various factory-fitted upgrades
  • Recent maintenance and replacement parts
  • Registration is now on original plate and will not be sold with the Registration on images
