Chassis No. – SRH26459
M.O.T. – Exempt
Odometer – 38,708
Offered at No Reserve, this elegant 1976 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow 1 is described as an honest example of a classic Rolls-Royce with a low mileage – the odometer reads a mere 38,700 miles. Registered on 1 December 1976, ‘OYV860R’ has had just nine keepers since new, well below the average for a car of this age. The vendor says it runs and drives well, with recent work including new tyres all round, along with new brake lines and brake calipers, and a new exhaust manifold.
‘OYV860R’ comes with lots of paperwork, reports the vendor, comprising service history and old MOTs. It also comes with all its original Rolls-Royce-supplied tools. Crisp blue metallic paintwork is set off by a blue leather interior, with lashings of real wood veneer. The famous 6.75-litre V8 engine naturally has an automatic transmission, with column-mounted shift lever, and the car has covered minimal miles in recent years.
The Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow was introduced in 1965 and became the firm’s first car to use a modern monocoque chassis rather than a ‘body on frame’ rolling chassis. Visually it was much more modern and contemporary than its predecessor, the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III. There were advances beneath the surface, such as disc brakes and fully independent suspension. It even had a hydropneumatic suspension system licenced from Citroen. The 6.75-litre V8 engine delivered effortless power through a creamy automatic transmission. A popular mode, the Silver Shadow became one of the highest-volume Rolls-Royce models ever.
