November 2022 Classics Auction

Lot 57

1992 Volkswagen Scirocco GT II
*** NO RESERVE ***

Registration - J235 LVU

Chassis No. - WVWZZZ53ZNK000667

M.O.T. - July 2023

Odometer - 129,879

This notably unmolested Generation 2 Scirocco GT II was first registered in April 1992, which makes it one of the last of the line. Its metallic blue bodywork is matched to the original blue/grey check seats and black carpet, while the 1781cc engine drives through the standard five-speed manual gearbox. The vendor currently considers the engine, transmission, hatchback bodywork and upholstery to all be in ‘good’ condition, and is now selling the venerable VW complete with radio/CD, spare wheel, jack and an extensive selection of bills, plus a current MOT certificate valid to July 4 next year. The total indicated mileage currently stands at 129,880.

Volkswagen’s Scirocco was effectively a replacement for its Karmann Ghia model. Based on but launched six months before the ubiquitous Golf, the newcomer was penned by Giorgetto Giugiaro and, like the Karmann Ghia before it, was manufactured on Volkswagen’s behalf by Karmann of Osnabrück in Germany. There were two generations of the original model, both of which were built in relatively small numbers – Gen.1: 504,153; Gen.2: 291,497. Gen. 2 made its debut at the 1981 Geneva Salon and production ran from then until 1992. While It was manufactured on the same platform as the original car, the notably different styling was this time the work of Volkswagen’s own design team. There was the option of numerous trim levels as well as no less than 11 engines ranging in size from 1.3 to 1.8-litres, though not all of them were available in every market.

In summary:

  • A seemingly very original example inside and out
  • Comes complete with extensive paperwork and current MOT
  • Being sold at No Reserve
